Another fun weekend!

The J5/6's had another fun weekend!  The weather cooperated as well, which is nice :)  The J6's raced at Mad River Glen on Sunday in a GS.  MMSC did amazing, check out the results at www.vara.org

The J5's raced a stubby sl at Sugarbush, MMSC also did amazing!  Here are few pics:

Another big highlight was our FAST WEDNESDAY!  It was super-g training on Main St.  What a blast it was!!  We had officer Mchugh out tracking our speeds.  Most all the kids were going between 30-40 mph. We even had Flynn clocked at 44 mph!  Nice job everyone!

We are looking forward to a few fun weekends of good training coming up!  This weekend will be brisk so please dress accordingly.  We will be training GS both days and the J5's will have another ski up day with the J4's on Saturday!
See you soon,

wicked cold weekend

howdy J5/6 blog followers

So our past weekend was quite a chilly one!  We made the most of it though!
On Friday we trained GS on SL hill to get ready for Smuggs race next weekend.   By doing a tuck course up on top and starting the second course at the knoll this really simulates race day.  A few big turns on a steep start then a big delay is their usual set up :)

On Saturday we were blessed with some beautiful, bountiful snow.  14 inches to be exact!  We will take it!!  The skiing was good, but it sure was chilly.  With a nice temp of -23 at the top of the gondola it wasn't for everyone :)  We ended up just free skiing all day...too soft for gates!!

On Sunday it was another brisk one!!  The skiing was again, unreal, and the gondola was a great place to be on that one!!  The highlight of our morning was popping into the woods off cliff trail and seeing a moose.  Jeffery was the first to sight him, and boy was he surprised...both of them were :)  The moose went along his merry way and so did we.  The J5's had their first step up day with the J4's on Main Street and the rest of us had another session of epic GS training on SL hill.

On Monday we had another fabulous morning!  The weather cooperated with us, and we got in a good 2 hour session of GS training on SL hill.  It was a great holiday weekend!

Holiday Break!!

The J5/6's skied a lot this week and worked really hard!!  Nice job everyone!  Tuesday thru Friday we had a GS progression to get them ready for the Cruise into New Year race.  With a full length course on Friday they were ready to race on Saturday.  Everyone did an amazing job.  From Poppy Sargent and Eli Smith racing in their first race to Flynn Kearney sweeping the field coming in 19th place overall.  Everyone has made great improvements!  I could not be more proud!  I also want to take a moment to thank the J5/6 staff!  This group is amazing!  Thank you for all your hard work.

On Monday we began our SL progression.  With all our new equipment I could set a brush course first, a SL stubby course second, then go back up to set a long pole course at the top.  The kids had a blast!

Let's not forget our annual CIRCUS DAY, what a blast we had!  This is one of my favorite days of the program thank you to all who dressed up and participated in the event!

December 10 & 11

We are making the most of our tricky start to winter, but we are ready for more snow!!!  I really hope mother nature decides to help us out soon, we did do a dance to get some more!

We made a lot of runs over at the mountain in the morning, focusing on our Athletic Stance.  We also made the most of Spruce by doing drills on Inspiration.  Ask your children what they worked on last weekend, and what type of drills they did to focus on Athletic Stance.  It is great to reiterate the skills throughout the week.

First weekend of J5/6

We had a great adventurous first weekend.  The weather has been interesting up here on Mt. Mansfield, but we sure made the most of it!  On Saturday we had a great morning of dry land training.  We hiked up to the Slalom Hill start, talked about how amazing our US ski team is doing, did some exercises, and a wicked sweet human slalom on the way back down to the club.  Once we got inside we did some hurdles, wall sits, push-ups, and many leg busters.  We also took the two different groups in the other room and talked about our goals for the season.  We had a wide variety of responses from meeting Ed Hackett to winning the J5/6 Duals.  Some very common ones were getting in the top ten, skiing every trail on the mountain, and making new friends.  Sounds Great!!!

On Sunday we decided to brave the mountain, and it was a pleasant surprise compared to Saturdays conditions.  Although it was still a little bumpy and variable they didn't have the snow guns blasting which made for a more pleasant journey down.  I hope the temperatures stay low enough to make snow and boy it would be super if we could get some more of the natural stuff!   Think snow
